Hi,

I have a 97 GMC Jimmy which is having a tranny problem. Tonight I drove home and I exited the vehicle and noticed smoke coming out from underneath the vehicle. I looked underneath and found that there was Transmission fluid everywhere under the vehicle. When driving I noticed no problems. No lurching, roaring, nothing.

After I noticed this I let the vehicle cool down and added a quart of transmission fluid to see where it was leaking. The fluid did not leak out of anything.

I am completely at a loss for this problem. I came here to see if I could get any direction on what to do.

Thanks for your response!

Clean all of the oil off of the tranny, use engien degreasing and get it to shiny metal or paint, no oil.

Then add baby powder to suspected areas and start it, where the powder changds color is where its coming from.

I had the same problem with my 96 jimmy. It had blown out the front main seal. Maybe check it out. Hope this helps you out a little. But also check the rear main seal.
