HI I WAS RECENTLY COMING HOME FROM OUT OF TOWN AND MY 1997 JIMMY STARTED SLOWING DOWN AND EVENTUALLY WE PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND SEEN THAT IT WAS LOSING ANTIFREEZE. SO WE DECIDED TO OPEN THE HOOD. YOU COULD HEAR A HISSING NOISE AND THEN THE ENGINE COOLANT RESIVOR LID CAME SHOOTING OFF. AFTER WE CALLED THE TOW TRUCK WE TRIED TO TURN THE CAR ON AND IT WOULD NOT WORK. THE RADIATOR WAS JUST CHECKED AND EVERYTHING WAS FILLED CORRECTLY. ANY IDEAS?

Hi there,

You will have to re fill the coolant and do a system pressure test to locate any leaks, if the engine will not start now, you may have blown a head gasket or worse, if it wont turn over pull the plugs and make sure that a cylinder not full of coolant, and creating a hydraulic lock.
