A couple of weeks ago I was sitting in a drive thru and I noticed what smelled like burning plastic. I looked and saw a small amount of smoke coming from the switch where I turn my heat up and down. It only lasted a couple of seconds after that and hasn't happened since. My heat works just fine as long as I warm the vehicle up good, there is not any coolant build up on the floor and I'm not losing any coolant. So basically I was wondering could this possibly be a sign of a future heater core problem or is it just some wire that doesn't mean that much?

Well im sure it has nothing to do with the heater core. On the other hand, wiring may be going bad

No if anything its wiring inside the control panel. As long as everything is still working properly and there is no more smell. Im sure there is not going to be anymore problems from that heater control panel. At the same time if you just want to ease your mind, then I would pull the control panel out and do a quick visual inspection of the wiring. Otherwise don't worry
