I have a 87 gmc jimmy v1500. The drive gear that atatches to the drive shaft broke loose. Now I need to put a whole new rear end in. I found one out of a suburban that will fit. I have never done this before and would like some advice on how to replace the rear end, axle and all. Is it just as simple as disconnecting the brakes and removing the bolts from the springs and shocks or is there more to it than that?

That's about it-I'd recommend you verify compatibility-and with 4x4 the ratio. Same "axle code"?

Make sure the gear ratio in the replacement rear end matches the gear ratio in the front end
