I could smell gas every time I start my GMC Canyon truck (inline 5 cyl). I also noticed that the gas mileage is terrible. What could be the problem. Thanks.

Hello,

Do you only smell gas while you are inside the vehicle?
Can you smell it when standing outside?

It could be due to a leak in the fuel line or other components under the hood.
Best course of action would be to do a thorough inspection of the fuel components under the hood. Make sure there is no leak from the fuel pressure regulator. Check the fuel rail, inspect the connector to the injectors. They all should be dry. If you can smell fuel with the hood open it is surely a leak. Keep in mind that fuel vapor can create significant amount of smell even with a minor leak.

The smell can also come from the EVAP canister solenoid under hood.

If you can smell fuel from outside, it is typically related to the fuel tank. One common place for fuel leak is the fuel filler neck.

Please let me know what you find.

Thank you.
