Speedometer on 2003 Chevy 2500

I have a 2500 chevy with 120,000 on it. Sometimes when drive the speedometer "sticks" or becomes sort of "jerky." Sometimes it will just stay at a certain point in the gauge. Any thoughts on what to do

I also have the speedometer problem where it will show I am traveling at 70MPH when actually I am only going about 30MPH, them when on the highway it will show a speed of 140MPH and I know I am not going that fast. My local Chevy dealer says it is the speedometer, however since it does work sometimes but not most of the time I am wondering if there is a speed sensor that went bad. I will be intereste to see what the CarPros have to say.
