2003 GMC C2500 rear view mirror

The numbers / compass direction on the rear view mirror do no appear now. I asked the dealership if their was a fuse for this and the location of it.

There responce was " there is a short in the mirror, and you must by a complete new new for @ $450.00.

Is this true or is there a blown fuse that I can replace?
