my van started doing weird shifting and sometimes stays stuck in second gear. I also noticed when the brake is applied the abs engages. This problem only happens sometimes. It went away for months and recently came back. The code reader said it was a quad driver problem. The original battery was replace with starting deep cycle battery. Could this have caused the problem? Not sure what to do. Where do I start?

The ABS unit may be going bad, but clean your grounds. If it is going to get worse it will. Wait until then. If yor abs goes out you will still have brakes just the abs won't work.
