Z71 4WD light

2000 Silverado 1500 Z71 with 70,000 miles.

The service 4wd light keeps coming on. The computer at the dealership did not come back with any problem codes. Now the service 4wd light still comes on and the status light on the left side of the dash (the one which tells you whether you are in 2wd or 4wd) goes out then comes on then goes out, etc. I have no idea what is going on, but am worried that I am going to seriously damage the transmission/drive train if the problem is not found and corrected.

I am having the same problems with my transfer case/ 4wd. Maybe mines futher along because when I engage four wheel hi, and hit it about mid throttle, I almost littlerally drag my front right tire. I was told that in these vehicles that they require a special transfer case fluid, instead of auto trans fluid like most use. (This is what I was told. Maybe bull )

anyone that can help us, it would be much appreciated :)

Not sure if this will help but my parents own a chevy avalanche and encountered the same problem. Numerous visits back to the dealership caused them to replace the 4x4 switch, the relay and finally the transfer case control module. The new TCCM finally fixed the issue.
