2006 GMC C1500 Service 4WD Message appears

SERVICE 4WD MESSAGE APPEARS ON DASH. TRUCK WOULD NOT GO FROM 4WD AUTO MODE BACK TO 2W HIGH MODE. SHUT TRUCK AND RESTARTED IN DRIVEWAY. TRUCK WOULD GO IN AND OUT OF 4WD AUTO & BACK TO 2W HIGH. BUT AFTER GOING BACK INTO 4WD AUTO WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE MESSAGE REAPPEARED. TRUCK WILL GO BACK INTO 2W H ONLY AFTER IT'S SHUT DOWN AND RESTARTED.1ST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED

My 2003 did something similar while under warranty and when I took it in there was a service announcement for it and they just had to program something in the computer. Hope yours is that simple

The dealer told my the wiring harness contoling the 4WD system had gone bad even though truck was about 30 months old at the time.I asked to see it and service coordintor showed me a short section of a chewed up harness.I told him I didn't think wiring could get that dad so fast. Other counter person took it out of his hand and said was not mine.I asked again to see the old harness and was then told new one was mounted side by side with old one.I had another local garage look later that day and was told only the new one was there. Tranlation I probaly had the same issue you had but was basically handed a line. Dealer is in Grand Rapids MI area. If you live in this area send another reply and I'll let you know whom to avoid. If not thanks for your post.I won't let that dealer do anything beyond oil changes anymore as they tried to pull a similar stunt last month. Regards / Bary G.
