1994 GMC C1500 Check Gage light on and Knocking noise fro

I drove my Suburban yesterday and my check gage light came on then a little bit later I heard a knocking sound coming fromt he engine. I wasn't for sure what the sound is. I just had the two oil hoses changed along with my oil. I just checked my oil and the oil looks black. I don't know if that's a good thing or not. My question is, what could cause my engine to start making the knocking noise along with the gage lightl?

Sounds like you lost oil pressure. Does it have a oil pressure gauge?

Yes it does. Do you think the repair man who replace the hoses might not have put enough oil after he lost quite bit of amount when replacing the hoses?
