1. Geo metro '95 3 cly, I think it is the 1L, yeah it is
2. 124000miles
3. Stick shift
4. 2 wheel drive
5. The sqealing
6. Slight (1 quart or less per 3 months) of oil (some burnt, no smoke, some dripped but very little)
7. Front left was bumped 4 years ago by truck replaced hood and left front piece. Replaced all belts. Rebuilt alternator 2-3 years ago.

the car runs like a champ, TONS of get up and go. It is two toned, the hood and front left are green and the rest is red, but all and all a great car.

2 months ago it started sqealing. I asumed it was the belts, so I replaced the ac and alternator belt. Within 1 week it was sqealing again. I took off both belts, ran the car and no sqeal. Then the ac belt, no sqeal. Then off with ac on with alternator belt, sqeal. So it was the belt, wow that was fast, I got a new belt to replace it and I noticed they looked EXACTLY the same. No glazing, no wear. I re placed it again, this time with the belt treater. One week, sqealing. This last time I put it on it start sqealing within an hour or two. Some one told me the pulleys must be off, but they look straight, and there is no extra clean part on the pulleys or excess wear on the belt. I am at a loss. I can get photos of what ever you guys need to solve this. I just want my dear sweet metro back, she has been so good to me.

Next time it squeals, lightly spray water on the belt, if the noise continues, use a homeade stethescope to narrow it down. Using a long screwdriver, place the tip on the alternater and the other end up to your ear. You can hear the differences of roughness among the various pullied componenets to track down the offender.

My first Geo engine has about 340,000 miles on it.

The water pump has went out twice now. Squeelin like a stuck pig till it locked up both times.

I too thought it was a belt or altinator.

Take the belt off and wriggle the pully. Not turn. Wriggle.
If it is bad you will feel it.

I can change mine out in about 40 mins.
With less experience. Count on 2-4 hrs

good luck
