How to replace the gear shifter cable bushing?

Cable bushing replacement.

Hi,

The section of cable that attaches to the shifter is what I believe you are referring to.
The bushing in that section, to the best of my knowledge, isn't replaceable. If it has failed, the cable needs replaced.

I know these cables can be adjusted. Could that be what is needed or is something broken? If broken, I attached the directions for replacing the cable below.

Starting at pic 15, I included the directions for adjustment. You may want to try that first.
