When I purchased my car listed above new from the dealer, I noticed that unless you were at a complete stop, it grinded when you put the car in first gear. I said something to the salesman, but he said Fiats just do that. After driving the car for 1 year I have had to replace the clutch twice and the grinding got to the point where it would grind anytime the car was moving when shifted into first gear and about half of the time even while at a complete stop.

Good afternoon,

First gear does not have a synchronizer in it so when you go to shift into this gear, it may or will grind a little. That is normal.

The clutch failures have nothing to do with the grinding at all.

Have you changed the oil in the transmission? I would have someone perform this and see if there is any metal in the oil itself.
