My transmission changes gear very erratically, moving from start, it will change down instead of up. Sometimes it's fine?

We need to start with checking fluid and then monitor the commanded gear with the scan tool. If the commanded gear is not achieved we need to inspect inside the unit for metal. Depending on these findings will direct where to go. If the transmission is following the commanded gear and they are not correct then the control module is the issue.

I would suggest starting with checking for codes and go from there. However, if there are no codes then we need to check fluid condition and level, commanded gear vs actual, and then for metal in the unit.
