I reviewed the Carfax for the vehicle listed above. At 63,000 miles a garage reported replacing several engine gaskets. Manifold intake, valve cover, cylinder, engine/timing front cover and thermostat housing. It currently has 79,000. It was a fleet vehicle and appears to have been to a lot of auctions. Any ideas why?

Hi,

That is a really hard question to answer. If I had to guess, I would think the cylinder head gaskets were replaced. All of the gaskets you mentioned would require replacement if the cylinder heads had to be removed.

You indicated several specific gaskets. There is one that you just wrote cylinder. Did you mean cylinder head gaskets?

Let me know.

Yes, cylinder head gasket was replaced.

So that gives me the likely repair.
The why is a crap shoot. Should I run fast or take a chance?

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

As long as the vehicle is running properly, it should be fine. Let me know if there are any issues you've noticed and if the check engine light stays on when the engine is running.

Keep in mind, head gaskets fail. It doesn't happen all the time, but it also isn't uncommon. If it was done by a professional, it should be fine.

Let me know.
