Engine is overheating and losing power. Diagnosis from garage is the head gasket needs replacing. As soon as we realized their was a problem (car was slowing down) we put it on the driveway so as not to prolong the damage.

Obviously this is an expensive repair but putting money to one side. Is it worth the repair? Car is in good condition only 47,000 miles on the clock.

If the head has not warped is it worth the repair or is it normal to encounter more problems once a gasket has blown despite the gasket being replaced? Is it likely to have damaged other parts of the engine?

Many thanks

Good morning,

The repair is usually around $1,500.00 to $1,800.00 depending on needed parts. That can only be determined once the head is removed.

The cause needs to be determined as a blown head gasket is a result of overheating, not the cause.

It is up to you whether it is worth it. Can you replace the car for the amount of the repair with no payments?
