I have a 1984 4x4 Blazer. It has a strong smell of gas inside of the truck. You can also smell gas outside. I see no leaks on the ground. The gas gauge does not work proper. You never know how much gas you have. The gas mileage is terrible. It has a 305 engine. The steering is also kind of sloppy. What would cause this smell and does it have somethi][ng to do with the terrible gas mileage?

Check for leakage underhood and broken or split lines near evap canister it may be underhood on right or left side with hoses going to it. I should have one hose leading from engine to canister at least. That may be your smell that you have. If your steering is sloppy then have the front suspension checked you may have worn tie rod ends or idler arm bad as well as ball joints.
