I was told to check the catalytic converter to see if it glows red. I haven’t seen it glow yet. I’m assuming that the oxygen sensor plays are part in this. Could this be my problem?

Welcome to 2CarPros.

If the converter is glowing red it would indicate it is plugged and overheating. Does it smell like raw fuel or does it seem more like the exhaust has a rich smell?

These vehicles (and I don't know where you are located) have rust issues related to the fuel lines and fuel tank. It could be a leak.

Let me know. Also, let me know if the check engine light is staying on when the engine is running. If there is an issue with an oxygen sensor, the light should stay on.

Take care,
Joe

Welcome back:

The first thing I suggest is to have the computer scanned so we know what diagnostic trouble codes are stored. It will point us in the right direction for the repair.

Most parts stores will scan it for free or lend/rent you a scanner. Have this done and let me know the results.

I'm not sure what is used on the roads in IN during the winter, but if it is anything like PA, there is a good chance you simply have a leak due to a rusted line.

I will watch for your reply.

Joe
