Fuel filter installation?

1999 CHEVROLET SILVERADO
200,247 MILES • 5.3L • V8 • 2WD • AUTOMATIC

When I took off the old in line fuel filter the word out was facing the tank, so I installed the new one the same way. My question is, shouldn’t the word out that is stamped on the filter be facing the motor?
