The car will not start on first crank or second. Have been waiting a short time then trying to start it. Cranks and fires up. Sometimes when I start it first time in morning it will start, but be rough if step on gas pedal it smooths out. Is it fuel pump? As always. You are the best help on the web. Much thanks.

You would need install a fuel pressure gauge to see if the pressure drops too quickly. If it does then lift the fuel rail up with the fuel injectors still attached and check to see if any of them are leaking. Here is a link to fuel injector testing.

If the injector is not leaking then the fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator has an internal leak. The fuel pressure regulator is part of the pump assembly so it would be safe to replace the unit. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
