Replacing front wheel bearing right and left

I am curious if I will need to compress any springs or need any special equipment to replace a wheel bearing? I saw a YouTube video on how to replace it and it seemed straight forward until someone mentioned I might need to compress some suspension springs to do it? Any advice you can give?

This is what the hub assembly on a Cobalt with an automatic looks like. I do not see any springs that need compressing.

This is exactly my problem! Someone said I would need special equipment to do this job as a novice and I would need to compress the suspension springs, but I literally do not see a need for it. Is there anything I should be aware of in terms of doing this replacement? It seems like a really straightforward repair.

Just to add to this one. It is a very straight forward repair. Rent an axle socket to remove the axle nut.

Why do mechanics charge as much as $450.00 for this repair? How is that possible? The part seems rather inexpensive also.

The shops do not charge for parts what you can get them for online or at the parts store. They mark them up what they want to mark them up. Plus labor which as time goes on and depending which shop varies.
