As I was coming home yesterday, I noticed a squealing/grinding sound coming from the front passenger side wheel. It is a consistent noise. As soon as you apply the brakes, the noise stops. Any idea of what the issue could be?

This sounds like the brake pads need to be replaced, here is how if you want to do the job yourself. Here is a video of the job being done on a similar Subaru; the procedure is the same.

You will need to do brake rotors as well. Let me know if the pads are okay because a bad bearing hub can cause this noise as well. Check out the images (below). Let us know if you need anything else.

To put it into perspective instead of describing, this is the noise coming from the front passenger side wheel. Any ideas as to what the problem is and how much it’ll cost to fix?

Yep, this sounds like a brake issue. I would check the front brake pads; do you have a brake waring light on? Another way is to lift the hood and see if the brake fluid is low.

I did have the brake light come on like last week. I checked the brake fluid level, and it was low. I just filled it back up and the light went away and hasn’t come on since.

I was driving home yesterday when I noticed a grinding/ squealing sound coming from the passenger side wheel. The sound is consistent as you drive, and it stops when you brake. The front brakes and rotors were last replaced 5/8/2024 with 83,092 miles on the car. There are about 90,000 miles on the car currently, but it is definitely less than that. Any ideas as to what the issue is and how much it will cost to fix?

So it looks like you need front brake pads and rotors. Please check out my first post. If a shop does the work, it should be about $550.00 parts and labor.
