I reacently became aware that I have about 3/4 inch more clearance between the front of the tire and the inner fenderwell on the drivers side, as opposed to the passenger side. What would cause this?

Good morning.

That is called wheel set back. If the distance is not the same then there is a failure in the front suspension. You need to have the front end checked for any possible bent or worn out parts. The lower control arm is first suspect as if it is bent it will change position of the tire.

I suggest going to a shop that offers free suspension checks, which is most shops and have them evaluate the front end for you and give you a list of what needs to be done. Once you have that, come back and tell me what they found and we can discuss it further.

Thank you kindly. Would happen to know what the dimension from the center line of the front wheel to a known reference point is supposed to be, would you?
