Truck was towed due to parking violation. When I drove it home from tow yard there was a severe shake and burning smell from underneath. Tow company towed the truck with the rear end in the air with front wheels on the ground, no tow dollies. I believe truck was in park and in 2H. I have been told the front differential is severely damaged and needs to be replaced. Tow company says they didn't do the damage. I'm no mechanic and need an explanation of how an improper tow (Owners manual says not to tow the way they did) can cause this type of damage.

Because it's an electronic shift and was towed the axle free spins and does not get any lube so it burns the bearings out when towed when it specifically says not to be towed like that.
