Battery light came on and stayed on

98 ford windstar 3.8-My battery light came on and stayed on had tested at advanced auto and alt was bad on way home battery dies had to jump about 6 times to barely get home battery totally dead at this point put a charger on and replaced alt and now battery light still flickering and running car alt test shows nothing from charging system My question is could battery show ok and still be bad because of what it went through previously? Also is the voltage reg in the alternator or on the engine?

Just went throught he same thing. My battery was perfect but still was not enought to keep me running no matter how many times we charged-It wa just a bad altenator.A little advice, don't have your old one rebuilt unless you know they are using QUALITY parts! We had our's rebuilt and had nothing but trouble.I would advise a new one or a refurbished one directly from the Ford company. We went with the refurbished one from Ford and have had no problem since. Your voltage regulator is in your altenator and if you do end up rebuilding your old one make sure they use the correct regulator-I have heard horror stories about wrong ones being used!Hope this helps atlest a little! :D :P :lol:
