1999 Ford Truck Service Engine Soon light came on / engine

I own a 1999 Ford F-250 XLT 7.3 L Diesel 4x4. The service engine soon light came on. I serviced fuel filter. Engine seems to be running on 6 cylinders. Idles rough, runs rough, hard to start. Any suggestions? Thank you.

When the service engine light comes on you need to get the code scanned to see what is causing the problem. It means that a sensor has gone bad or not working any longer.
