Overdrive or regular drive

I have a 1994 Ford Thunderbird SRS, V-8,196,000 miles. When driving, is it best to drive in overdrive all the time or in regular drive and then switch to overdrive when on the freeway or when going over speeds of 40?

Most people drive around in od mode all the time, in the city if plenty of stop and go, driving in d basically stops a lot of unnecessary shifting in and out of od, lockup will still occur. I mostly leave it in od mode.
