94 thunderbird lx 55,500 auto. While i'm driving, my foot will be on the gas and all of a sudden, the tachometer will increase as if I have the car in neutral and reving the engine. I let go of the gas and then gas it again and the car seems to 'jerk' into gear. I just got it recently and it was running in good condition until now. Please help. Thank you.

First things first check your fluids to make sure they are up to correct level.

I have also had this same problem with this year model tranny. Once a rebuild @ over 1700 dollars and a year later the same thing. I found an answer that, so far, has worked for me on a Lincoln forum. No, it wont make a bit of sense, but as I said, its working.
Replace the NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH and advise me of any good results. They are inexpensive and a much better fix than a rebuild that you dont need.
Hope this works for you as it has for me.
