1995 ford thunderbird

i have a 1995 ford thunderbird and the battery light is on. i can sit at a stoplight and the car wont die, but the charge meter is almost in the red, can anyone tell me what is bad or going bad the battery or the alternator?

thanks for the advice it turned out to be the alternator. My next question is my driver side door, how do i get it to close properly because it sags about an inch and i have to lift door with both hands to get it to shut
