I am getting a 1994 Ford Tempo GL with a 2.3L in it with 79,000 miles on it. I am using it for a "fun" project and to learn on, and was wondering if and what types of engines I replace the current one with. Could I put a V6 in it? What do I need to consider when putting a new engine in? I am trying to learn more about cars (I know basics), and hope that I could learn more about the engine by putting in a new one.

Just my 2 cents. Stay with the same size motor. Your going to create what I call a frankenstein. When you have problems, you will cry alone.

Get a jasper engine if you want a quality rebuilt engine.

You can put whatever you want in it, but if it isn't all calibrated to work together, it isn't worth squat. Like above said, it'll be a nightmare. You'll be chasing issues till the end of the earth.
