When I apply my brakes I hear a groaning sound coming from the rear of the car. Could this be my brakes or is it something else?

Well. It is most likly the brakes, when you just start to release the pedal, but not quite, is that the groan? It's called creep groan, and if you are hearing it when you apply the brakes, either the rears aren't adjusted properly, or your wheel cylinders are starting to leak, have em looked at!
