Engine Cooling problem
1991 Ford Tempo 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

my temperature gauge is showing the car is over heating and the car will eventually shut off but when i checked the fluids in the radiator it was ok. I assume my problem is the thermostat. where and how do i replace the thermostat? Thank you for your time.

yes, it could be the thermostat. it's located under the metal housing where the top radiator hose enters engine! just drain radiator down or take out the 2 bolts with a pan under that area to catch antifreeze. either just remove it to solve problem or replace with a new 1. also check that water pump is turning and belt to water pump is not loose/worn! it's located behind left rear corner of cylinder head. you can veiw the pump pulley as it operates by looking down between cylinder head and left (passenger) shock tower.
