I have an 89 tempo GL, ran great until this evening when I ran out of gas. Now I had a guy come and try to fill it so it would run, but all it would do is pop and cut off, or misfire. We even took it to the gas station after a while of pumping the gas petal to send through some gas, and filled it up. Still not starting and had to be towed home. There are no visible leakage of gas, and until then it ran great! So what could be wrong with my car?
Again; the fuel pump does engage, the starter does turn over, and there are no visible leaks, but she will not stay on and will not go.

May be spark problem. This includes coil, spark wires, distributor parts like cap and rotor and ignition module and internal pickup coil. You can get module tested at auto parts store.
