Stalling

I have a 1993 ford Taurus, gl 3.8 liter v6. The car starts, and runs for a few minutes then boggs down and cuts off. The car will start about 2-3 minutes later, but I just end up going through the same process all over again. I tried just starting the car putting it in drive and going, but it justs boggs down and cuts off. When this first happen I was about 10 minutes from my house, so after severly failed attemps at getting the car to go. I let it sit for about 20 minutes, started the car and got it home with no problems. When I got the car home I let it run to see if the problem would start up again and it did. Can someone please tell me, whats going on with this car.
