1997 ford taurus 78,000 miles this car is becoming a mistery it will at times crank over but will not start. I have left it for a day or two and times 10 minutes to hours and get back in to start it and it starts right up. Have had many suggestions from fuel to electrical can you give any info to go on Thanks

Start by checking all connections to the battery and the starter. Clean off any corrosion from the battery terminals.

If that doesn't help, the problem could be in the ignition switch.

When it fails to start, does the engine crank fast, or a bit on the slow side? Do you get clicks even when the battery is fully charged? If so, then it could be the starter. Most auto parts stores will test your starter for free. While you're at it, have them load test the battery too.

My general rule is: start with the least expensive problem, and work your way up.
