A friend of mine has a Ford Taurus V6 3.8L. The head gasket is gone and the garage I work at on Saturdays said that they could replace the gasket and another mechanic there said that within 2 - 6 months later, the engine will die. Is that correct and is it automatic that if you replace the head gasket that the engine will definitely die.

No! Why would it?--Is my impulsive answer.

Before I say that, there may be more than what meets the eye. Why did he say that. What logic and criteria is he basing that on? If the coolant and oil mixed it could support his reasoning. However it depends how long this has gone on. Ask him first and see why he thinks that.
