2002 Ford Taurus Ruff idle at stop light with car in gear

I was wondering if someone could assist me in determining where to start, or if anyone has experience the following trouble:

My 2002 Ford Taurus has a ruff idle when the car is in gear and idleing, the car does not die, but will hesitate on take off. The car runs fine at all other times. The car will also idle ruff when out of gear with the ac off.

Only at idle? Slight pressure on the pedal seem to smooth it out? Are you sure it's only at idle? Could be a vacuum leak, dirty throttle plates, idle air control dirty or faulty, any check engine light? Get it scanned anyway. Check pcv hosing for pinholes or cracks
