Engine Mechanical problem
2002 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

Recently overheated; luckily water did not mix with oil but engine was so hot it melted engine harness; replaced with new gaskets, sensors, plugs and wires. Replaced with used complete engine harness for same year/model as Ford has discontinued this item.

Now when cranks has misfire/skips. Throttle position sensor error of low, new sensor. Could it be that ECM needs replacing, if so how do I make sure that I replace with correct component for 2002 SES, Auto OD 3.0L OVH

Hi rjgray, Welcome to 2carpros and TY for the donation it keeps the site going

Do you have a check engine light and when was the last tune-up

Engine running rough or misfiring can be cause by the following:

1. Defective spark plug

2. Inadequate spark/coil, defective spark plug wire.

3. Lack of compression

4. False air leakage.

5. Faulty fuel injectors.

6. Insufficient fuel pressure.

7. Contaminated fuel.

8. EGR valve that is leaking.

9. Oxygen sensors.

10. Throttle position sensor.

11. Idle air control valve.

Check engine light is on - Code given is for TPS low input. This is one of the sensors that has been replaced since having to replace head gasket. I was told that possibly that after all repairs that have been made that cylinder #1 and possibly cylinder #2 are not working as there is very low compression in #1 and? Low in #2.

Would it be better just to buy another engine as I have already spent$1500 in parts alone to rebuild this engine.

Sir, its your shot on a remanufactured engine. On those low cylinders-could be just the valves and if its a 3.0L engine only the head on that side that needs replacement/valve job. Compression/leakdown tests will pin point where its leaking to confrim it.

Could very well be the injector or the sparkplugs on those cylinders-its up to you-Get a 2nd opinion if I were you
