2001 Ford Taurus water pump

Could having an engine flushed cause the water pump to leak and need replacing? A few weeks ago I went to a chain oil change place and because I went 6,000 miles between oil changes the mechanic suggested I have an engine flush which I agreed to. The car remained parked for the day after the flush/change. That evening I noticed about 3 tablespoons of fluid on the front passenger side about a foot in from the tire. I called the chain store which said it could be drips from spilling. The drips continued so I took it back and the mechanic said that I need a new water pump. How long can a leaky water pump last if I keep antifreeze filled? (No noticable level decreases yet)
