2001 Ford Taurus Stalling

My Taurus will idle with no problem. I put the car into gear and drive a block and it will stop and surge repeatedly then completely die. I changed the alternator but it still does the same thing. Any ideas?

Can you keep it running with foot on gas and if so suspect IAC valve remove and clean or replace

No, it will idle on its own with no problem, I can put my foot into the gas while it is idling and the rpm's will go up normally. But when I put it into gear and try to drive no matter how much gas I give it it dies.
