I have a 2000 Taurus and the Power Steering recently went out on it. It started by making a noise from the pump and the fluid level seemed low, so we added some. The noise went away for a couple of days, then the same thing happened again. Then the steering wheel became very hard to turn. We replaced the pump because it seemed as if the pump was not working anymore. The problem is still persisting. Can you provide some thoughts on this please?

Sounds like you just wasted a pump on that one. The system has a leak that could be anywhere in the system and it needs to be located and confirmed visually.

The noise and lack of power assist is simply the system being low on fluid.
