2000 Ford Taurus Air Pump

I had a diagnostics check done on my vehicle and it said that the air pump was defective or the relay may be gone out. I was wanting to know what other damage could that cause if I don't get it fixed right away. In conjunction with that the read also said that my number 5 spark plug is misfiring are those two related because on Saturday it was just the air pump today it was the air pump and teh spark plug.
