The heat in the car stopped working, except occasionally when I was gassing the car. I changed the heater core and it worked for a few weeks but now it isn't working again. One hose leading from the heater is hot and the other is ice cold. I'm about to change the thermostat but was wondering if there was something else that could be wrong with it. Thanks

One hot hose and one cold
not enough coolant going through the heater core
flush coolant system and isolate heater core and flush

I have had the same problem for years. After alot of troubleshooting and a heater core change with the same problem reoccuring, I have determined the cooling system produces rust and accumulates at the lowest point in the system "The Heater Core". About every 2-3 months I have to flush the heater core (not the cooling system) with compressed air and clean water. The coolant that comes out is rusty and nasty. Heater is hotter than heck for a few months then just goes cold. Repeat flush and works great again.

Does anyone have a solution for the rust?
