1998 Ford Taurus car keeps draining my battery

1998 Ford Taurus V8 Front Wheel Drive Automatic m

I just replaced the battery. Yet the car still drains the battery overnight. Took it to auto zone they ran a test said it was not the starter or the alternator. However when I jump start it it will start right up when I tap on the starter. Clueless when the tests say both are fine yet. Every time I have to jump it to get it to run.

Sometimes it will start without tapping on the starter
but most times if I tap the starter it will crank up. Funny thing is when you use one of those stand alone batteries to jump the car it won't start no matter what I do. But another car with the jump cables will help to get it started. Thank you for replying i'm in the dark with this car. Teri

I would replace the starter motor for sure. To tell for sure you need to find out the voltage at the starter wire(the smazll one) my bet is the starter is bad.

Thanks I will give it a try. Would jumping the car off and it running for about 15 mins give a false reading on the voltage cuz the guys at auto zone checked it a few weeks ago and said the starter was reading a ok. But whatever needs replacing i'll do it I have to get my car fixed! Thank you for your help.

If the car started when they checked it then it would read ok. You cant test a starter that way. You need to test it when its dead.
