My car has alot of kms on it and the heater is broken. If turned on I get no heat and it smells like antifreeze, I believe this to be a problem with my block heater or a line in between or even both. Is there any way to fix this other than replacing the block heater? Because ripping the entire dash out or paying someone $800 to fix a $50 part seem to be my only options, both do not appeal to me :-(

Hi there,

If you can smell coolant then its a fair bet that the heater core has failed, a cooling system pressure test will confirm this, there is no real alternative but to replace it.
