96 taurus 3.0L AX4N trans, slipping in first gear from stand still to second gear then shifts fine, my question is: I would like to make it start out in second gear, is there a way to do it?

Some fords will start in second gear by placing the shifter in #2. Keep in mind, eventually that will cause 2nd gear to slip too.

If I put the car in 2nd gear it starts in first then stops shifting at second.

Hi:
It's doing what it is ment to do. It will start in second and stay there. What to do is after you get moving, they place it into drive so it can continue shifting normally. Please remember, starting in 2nd places an extra load on the transmission clutches. It will cause them to wear out faster.
