Hello all-
im new to the site and I own a 96 ford taurus gl. The problem is my idle jumps when the heat or a/c is turned on (when the compressor cycles) I have a cel that pops up with egr fault. My question is would the egr valve most likely be the problem or should I be lookin more at the IAC?
thanks

If you're getting EGR insufficient flow, I'd believe it. If so, the port in the intake manifold probably needs cleaning out. Pretty much have to take the throttle body off to reach it. As for idle, if it's not too high, that might be normal. Most cars automatically increase idle speed to compensate for compressor demand on engine.

Thanks for the input. Ill have to have the car scanned again to be sure what the code is but the idle is pretty stable except for when the compresor kicks in, the car actually will surge forward and almost pull through the brakes while at a stop light for instance. And while at a steady speed like driving on the highway I can feel the engine surge

OK, if that's the case, maybe you're on the right track with the IAC, but you need the code too.
