When you say you checked the fluid did you pull the rubber from the resivor and look inside? Ford clutches suck they are hard to bleed. How far from the floor does yor peddle travle up before it inguages the clutch should only be a half to an inch no more from the floor any more than that and you may need a clutch. (NOS)

What I mean is when you let out on the peadle how far off the floor did it used to go before the truck moved. A half to one inch from the floor was ample. But if you had to go almost all the way off the floor peadle was all the way up you need a new clutch. (NOS)

If it is coming up half way, that means your going to need a clutch cause when up push down on the pedle it is not relaseing the clutch so you can shift. The smell could be antifreeze from a busted hose. Is the motor all green looking?
