Ford Ranger gas pedal broken

I have a 2000 Ford Ranger, mileage is around 62,000. The gas pedal lies flat on the floor and has no play in it. I cannot drive the truck and it is just sitting at the end of my driveway. Is this something that will be expensive to fix?

I did notice before this happened that the pedal would not go down smoothly. Like it was sticking.

There is a possibility that the gas peddle cable is broken. It should run from the gas peddle through the firewall to the top of the engine where the throttle body is located.
